Back in 2008, George Watsky did his If I Were President video in his poetry slam style, asking politicians to stop acting like pick up artists. Watsky, an environmental activist known for his fast rapping and lisp, has recently become YouTube’s latest sweetheart.
But he’s more than just a mom cat hugging her baby cat when it comes to the power of his exposure to so many people online. The speed at which he spits his rhymes is pretty amazing, as you can see in his appearance on The Ellen Degeneres Show, but Watsky’s real talent is in expressing himself in a way that gets people thinking. If more rappers were flowing about social issues, maybe we would stop wondering if the music the kids are listening to is to blame for how unfazed they are by sexual images and violence.
If you were president, how would you deal with the pressures to keep people happy all the time? What do you think president Obama should be doing that he promised to in 2008? Do you think it’s even possible for a politician to get elected if they tell the truth?
Don’t forget to upload your very own If I Were President Video. Or you can always send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org if you’d rather write a post. Obama is listening. What do you have to say?
