Hidden Heroes Video Project

Welcome to the HIDDEN HEROES project. Through this hands-on, standards-based curriculum, youth will tell the stories of their communities through the heroes and leaders who live and work there.

We’ve created this Production Guide to help you implement the curriculum in your classroom or after school workshop. We’ll walk you through each of the steps, from identifying and interviewing the heroes to producing the final exhibit that will culminate the project. The structure of this Production Guide is geared towards in-class use for middle and high school students, and the lesson plans and activities can easily be adapted to an after school program.

Flipping The Script

Despite the compelling need to engage youth in discussions about Hip-Hop, many educators are hesitant, either because of potentially controversial content, or because they’re not sure how to integrate it into a standards-based framework. This guidebook and accompanying curriculum addresses both of these challenges; our goal is to demystify Hip-Hop and empower educators with relevant and compelling materials that they can use to connect with their students’ daily lives and culture.

As we piloted and developed this curriculum, it became clear that everyone has his/her own ideas about, and relationship with, Hip-Hop. We decided that our most effective contribution would be to create a framework that could facilitate a reexamination of those ideas and relationships – encouraging teachers and students to look at Hip-Hop in ways that they haven’t done before.

    i want to know much on how a best teacher must do to capture the interest of children in a class

    • Kubai Edward says:

      Capturing the interest of learners in a class depends on a number of things: Dress smartly.( ironed shirt and trouser, well kept short hair and clean shoes.) This gives an impression that “our teacher is mature and organized.” Learners become confident in you.

      Set rules of operation with them earlier.Let them know what you like & what you don’t like and why.Breaks of jokes and short stories in the lesson will help kill the monotony of academia all through.

      Update your learners on current issues before you start the lesson. Give assignments and mark them promptly. Work at their pace.Appreciate any slight improvement noted in any child.

      At games time, play with them soccer, volleyball or netball to narrow the teacher-student gap. With these, any learner should like you and your subject.

    • chibugo says:

      the best a teacher can do to capture the interest of a child in a classroom ; is to adopt what we call stimulus variation where a teacher will teach as well give examples either by physical nor abstract or equally tell stories while teaching inorder to draw the attention of the child. This will motivate the child to learn more. Secondly the teacher need to be friendly and one that entertain questions from students.

  42. samson adeoya says:

    The delivery of vocational agriculture at the senior secondary level should not be
    handled as a science per se but rather as a vocational subject for acquisition of practical
    agricultural skills for meaningful living (Obi, 2005).
    Olaitan (1997) maintained that the basic goal of our National Policy on Education is to
    make education both functional and utilitarian. Ikeoji (1999) reported that vocational
    education is borne out of the need for the system to make its products useful to
    themselves. The Federal Ministry of Education (as cited by Obi, 2005) stated that the
    objectives of agricultural education at the senior secondary should include;
    1) to stimulate and sustain students interest in agriculture;
    2) to enable students acquire useful knowledge and practical skills in agriculture;
    3) to prepare students for further studies in agriculture; and
    4) to prepare students for occupations in agriculture.
    In addition to this Yoloye (1984) outlined the aim of vocational education in Nigeria as:
    1) to provide people who can apply scientific knowledge to the improvement and
    solution of environmental problems for use and convenience of humanity;
    2) to provide the technical knowledge and vocational skills necessary for
    agricultural, industrial, commercial and economic development; and
    3) To provide young men and women with an intelligent understanding of the
    increasing complexity of technology.
    Observation has shown that as laudable as the objectives of agricultural and vocational
    education in Nigeria are it may be impossible to achieve them due to poor delivery
    process of the programme and inappropriate method of evaluating the performance of
    students in vocational agriculture at the senior secondary school (Ikeoji, 1997a, 1998).
    Martin and Odubiya (1991) reported that the primary role of vocational agriculture
    teachers has always been to help students to learn knowledge and skills in agriculture.
    Several researches have shown that many teachers of agriculture at the secondary
    school leave the profession early in their life (Myers, Dyer and Washburn, 2005;Heat-
    Camp and Camp, 1990,1994). Myers et al 2005; Camp, Broyles and Skelton, 2002;
    Mundt and Connors, 1999; and Veenman, (1984) have conducted studies on the problems
    of beginning teachers of agriculture. These problems of beginning teachers include
    classroom management and student discipline, balancing work and personal life
